Tax Breaks & Benefits | Support Mill Hill

Wherever possible, the Annual Fund will seek to maximise its own revenues and encourage supporters to take advantage of any charity-donation tax concessions that various governments offer.

  • Gift Aid (UK)
  • Giving from Europe
  • Giving from the USA

Gift Aid (UK Tax Payers)

Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of maximising donations to the Annual Fund. Using Gift Aid means that the Inland Revenue adds 25% to every pound donated. This means that a £100 Gift Aid donation is worth £125 to the Annual Fund without it increasing the donor’s contribution .

Gift Aid can apply to donations of any amount, large or small, by cash, cheque, postal order, direct debit, standing order, debit or credit card or even in a foreign currency. If you are a UK taxpayer, all you have to do is give the Annual Fund a simple Gift Aid Declaration. This might involve completing the Declaration on the Donation Form or just giving basic details over the phone or the internet. For those making online donations direct to the Annual Fund’s bankers, you can complete the declaration when making your gift.

What’s more, a single Gift Aid Declaration can apply to all past donations you have made since April 2000 and to all future donations you might make to the Annual Fund.*

Please note: Gift Aid is not applicable to donations from companies, trusts or charities.

Remember: It’s not just the Annual Fund that benefits. If you are a higher-rate tax payer, you can reclaim as much as £25 from the taxman for every £100 donated to charity by including details of your Gift Aid donations on your annual self-assessment tax return.

Giving from Europe

Transnational Giving Europe is a philanthropic scheme that allows donors in participating European countries to give to charities in the UK, including the Annual Fund*, and receive any tax advantages available in their country of residence.

In order to make a tax-efficient gift, donors should contact the partnership organisation of their country of residence and express a wish to make their donation to the Mill Hill School Foundation. The partnership organisation will contact CAF (the partnership organisation in the UK) who will, in turn, contact us. The donor makes the gift to his home-country partnership organisation which then provides the donor with a tax receipt and transfers the gift to the beneficiary organisation.

For a list of participating countries please go to the Transnational Giving Europe website and click on your country of residence. For a list of partnership organisations please click here. If you would like more information, please click here. Alternatively, we would be happy to guide you through step by step.

Giving from the USA

The Mill Hill School Foundation is recognised by the British Schools & Universities Foundation / BSUF. (BSUF was set up over 40 years ago to support British schools and universities in a tax efficient way.)

To make a gift and claim a US income tax deduction, you may make a donation to the British Schools & Universities Foundation (Federal I.D. Number 13-616-1189), a charitable organization approved by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3) of their Code.

Checks

If you would like to make a donation by check, download a Donor Transmittal Form and send it to:

British Schools and Universities Foundation
575 Madison Avenue
Suite 1006
New York
NY 10022-2511

A preference for the Mill Hill School Foundation * should be expressed on the transmittal form not on your check which is to be drawn to the order of the British Schools & Universities Foundation. Such preferences are respected by the Foundation but all grants are made at its sole discretion. As required by the I.R.S., BSUF will send you a receipt and if you wish the tax deduction in the current year, you should send your gift no later than four weeks before December 31st.

Credit Cards

You can also make one-time or regular donations by credit card using the Network for Good. Just follow the instructions on the BSUF website.

USA Legacies

A provision may be made in your Will or Trust bequeathing money to the BSUF. To contact BSUF regarding a bequest, please send an e-mail to treasurer@bsuf.org.

USA – Other Ways of Giving

You can also set up a Charitable Remainder Unitrust or an Individual Retirement Account or giving securities. Again, you can find more information on the BSUF website.
